Spotlight on U (Teachers)
What do you teach and why did you become a teacher?
I teach first grade and I love every moment of it! I became a teacher to make a difference in the lives of children.
What is your favorite memory from your teaching career?
My favorite memory is when a student returns when they are older and reminds me of something that they can recall that changed their life. WOW!
What's one piece of advice you'd give to aspiring teachers?
The best advice I can give is to meet every student where they are and love them in the truest sense of the word. Stay open-minded, and make an effort to understand how others think and live.

Describe your most creative lesson plan. How did you make the topic fun for students?
My most creative lesson was when I dressed as Miss Spider and brought the book character to life. It was the best lesson and the students were actively engaged.
What do you do for fun in your free time (outside of teaching)?
During my free time, I like to go shopping and sightseeing with my husband of 45 years and my mom, who is my biggest supporter.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
If I had a superpower, it would be to pour as much knowledge into every child that I come in contact with so that the world would not be able to suck them into so many unhealthy life events.
What is your favorite season and what do you enjoy doing during that season?
My favorite season is fall because I love watching the seasons change. It feels like a moment to pause, reflect, and reset before everything begins again. Plus, I enjoy picking apples and going to the mountains with my family.
If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?
The wisdom I hope every student takes from me is this: love yourself through every season, stay true to your beliefs, and stay the course—because the life you choose is yours to live. Always love and treat others the way you want to be treated. Keep it real.
