What do you teach and why did you become a teacher?

I teach second grade Mandarin Dual Language Immersion (DLI) at Marvin Elementary School. My journey into teaching started with my daughter. Watching her grow and learn sparked a passion in me to educate young minds. I love being a teacher because it allows me to share my cultural background and unique perspectives with American society, building bridges through education.

What is your favorite subject or lesson to teach, and what makes it so special?

My favorite subject to teach is Mandarin, especially when integrating different aspects of Chinese culture. To teach a language is to teach culture, values and ways of thinking. 

What do you hope every student remembers after leaving your classroom?

I hope every student remembers not only the academic content in every area, but also how capable, valued and loved they were in our classroom. I want them to leave with a lifelong curiosity about the world and the confidence to embrace new languages and cultures.

What is one moment in your classroom that reminded you why you love teaching?

When my students spontaneously start using Chinese phrases or cultural customs during their free play. Seeing them naturally embrace what they've learned and share it with pride brings me so much joy.

What do you do for fun in your free time (outside of teaching)?

Outside the classroom, I enjoy traveling, cooking traditional meals and spending cozy weekends with my family.

If you could instantly master any hobby or skill, what would you choose?

Photography! I love capturing photos of beautiful moments, nature and travels with my family.

What is your go-to comfort food after a long day?

Hot pot with my family or a sweet cup of milk tea.

If you could travel anywhere in the world during summer break, where would you go and why?

I would love to explore Japan or Switzerland to experience the incredible nature and delicious local food.
