Aidan Conway, CATA

What is your favorite subject in school and why?

Dance is one of my favorite classes because I’m in the dance academy at CATA. As upperclassmen, we get a lot of opportunities to choreograph and create our own numbers, which is something I look forward to every year. I also really enjoy AP Biology because it balances dance with science. The class includes a lot of hands-on lab experiences, and I enjoy learning the scientific side of things.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done in a school project or lesson?

One of my favorite things I’ve done is being a dance captain for the school musical. I help teach choreography, work one-on-one with performers, and make sure everyone is on the same page. We do a musical every year, and I love being able to connect with the cast, create choreography and influence the final production.

My favorite style of dance is tap. We don’t do a lot of it at CATA, but I love it. I enjoy how rhythmic it is, and I also love how showy and Broadway-style it can be.

If you could learn any skill instantly, what would it be?

I would like to learn another language instantly. I’ve been working on it through Duolingo, but it takes a lot of effort, and I think knowing another language is an important skill, especially going into the workforce.

Would you rather be able to talk to animals or speak and understand any language in the world?

I would choose to speak and understand every language. I think it would be impactful in today’s world and would help break down language barriers and create more connections and unity.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like taking care of my houseplants, performing outside of school, and playing instruments. I play the flute, piccolo, and piano, and I enjoy practicing and performing wherever I can.

I have about 24 plants right now, and my favorite is my Monstera.

What career would you like to go into?

I would love to pursue Broadway as a performer, but I also plan to double major in musical theater and chemistry in college. I’m interested in going into cosmetic formulation and management. I currently work as a beauty advisor, and that’s something I’d like to continue alongside performance.

What’s your favorite genre of music, favorite artist and current favorite song?

I usually listen to show soundtracks or pop music. One of my favorite artists right now is Lady Gaga, and my current favorite song is “Escapism” by RAYE, specifically the Royal Albert Hall version.

What celebrity would you want to be your best friend, and why?

My favorite celebrity is Derek Hough. I really admire his dance style and his background as a performer, musician and choreographer. I like seeing the work he shares and how his career includes many elements beyond just being on stage.
