Tom Childers, Antioch Elementary

What is your current role and why did you choose it?

I currently serve as the principal for Antioch Elementary School. I have also had the pleasure of working in nine different schools in our school district: Sun Valley High, Wesley Chapel Elementary, East Union Middle, Wingate Elementary, Marvin Elementary, Sandy Ridge Elementary, Marshville Elementary, Walter Bickett Elementary, and Antioch Elementary.

What’s your favorite thing about your current job?

I love working with people to solve problems and watch our students and educators grow.

What is your favorite memory in UCPS?

My favorite memory was being named to my first principalship. I was honored to have faith placed in me to lead a school.

What's your "superpower" at work (the thing you’re known for)?

Creating order from chaos!

Outside of your job, what are your hobbies or interests?

I have a number of things in my life that bring me great joy: spending time with my family, following University of Tennessee athletics and exercising.

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?

I would have dinner with Billy Graham because of the incredible moments in history he witnessed and the opportunity to hear firsthand about the people he met and the experiences he had throughout his life.

What’s the coolest place you’ve ever visited? What did you like about it?

The Parthenon in Nashville. I love history and the Parthenon is full of historical replicas.

What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?

I have had many jobs throughout my life, including construction, restaurant cook, umpire, landscaping, and of course, education.
