Spotlight on U (Staff)

Stephen Doscher, Wolfe School

What is your current role?

I am an instructional assistant at Wolfe School.

What’s your favorite thing about your current job?

The thing I like most about this job is the interaction with the kids. I was surprised at how great they communicate considering most are nonverbal. They really bring great joy to my life. We face many challenges every day, which are met well because of the dedicated staff here at Wolfe. I truly feel working here is like having an extended family.

What is your favorite memory at UCPS?

I have many standout memories, but I would have to say the holiday celebrations we do are awesome! I love seeing the kids' faces light up.

What's your "superpower" at work (the thing you’re known for)?

If I had to choose a "superpower," it would be my personality. I try to make everyone laugh and feel like they are the most important people around!

Outside of your job, what are your hobbies or interests?

My number one interest is spending time with my wife and three daughters. We make it a point to have family time. I also collect sports cards and non-sports cards. My collection dates back from 1875 to current years. I have been collecting for 45 years. I've met many athletes and have some great autographs as well.

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?

I would want to have dinner with Abe Lincoln and interview him. He had to make tough decisions that effectively changed the country as we know it. I would like to know how he felt having to make those decisions that, for many, were unpopular. I would love to know how he prepared himself for adversity.

What’s the coolest place you’ve ever visited? What did you like about it?

My travels have taken me to some pretty cool places; however, I'm from NY. I wouldn't classify this as "cool," but if anyone gets the chance, they need to visit Ground Zero and the Freedom Tower. The feeling you get there is undeniable and I feel people need to experience it at least once. It's very humbling.

What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?

A fun fact about me is that by chance I've been to some of the best Yankee games. I was at Game 6 of the 1996 World Series, I was at the 1977 World series when Reggie Jackson hit three homers in one game, and I was at David Cone's perfect game. It was only fitting that by chance I took my daughter to a game and we were on page six of Newsday. The stadium did an article about having the best stadium hot dogs. We have a great picture from the article with the stadium in the background.
