Lori Peyton, UCPS Academics
What is your current role and why did you choose it?
I am the secondary curriculum and instruction coordinator for the district. I chose this role because it allows me to expand my impact on adults.
What’s your favorite thing about your current job?
All of the people! I get to work with so many different people in different roles. Hopefully I help make their job easier and help them with any problems they have.
What is your favorite memory at UCPS?
That is a tough question—29 years in UCPS means a lifetime of wonderful memories, but if I have to choose one, it’s always tied to the times when we’ve seen extraordinary creativity transform a challenge. Seeing the first cohort of students graduate from Monroe High School’s Health Science Academy was pretty cool. I knew many of the students and they rose above their circumstances to graduate and find a place in society through the program.
What's your "superpower" at work (the thing you’re known for)?
I’m not sure I would consider it a superpower, but I’m pretty good at being able to simplify things or ideas. Sometimes telling it like it is can be important for understanding.
Outside of your job, what are your hobbies or interests?
I love to junk shop or thrift shop. I spend lots of time in the fall hunting whitetail deer. I also am involved in youth rodeo across the state.
If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?
I would have dinner with Annie Oakley. She was a trailblazing female performer who rose from poverty and became the first female superstar in a male-dominated field. She was the highest-paid performer in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show.
What’s the coolest place you’ve ever visited? What did you like about it?
Probably the Big Island of Hawaii! There is so much diversity in plants and animals. The beaches are beautiful and it has an active volcano that you can see.
What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I lived and went to school in Alaska when I was in the fourth grade. I was the school’s checker champion!
