What is your current role, and why did you choose it?
I am in my 10th year as an instructional assistant. After being a stay-at-home mom for a while, I wanted a job that would allow me to pursue my new passion for helping children. I love working with the students and helping them learn. Being a small part of their success makes each day meaningful. I am also in school right now earning my second degree, this time in elementary education, to receive my certification and license to become an elementary teacher. I cannot wait to continue on this journey for years to come!
What’s your favorite thing about your current job?
My favorite thing about my current job is getting to know all the children. I meet and work with 100+ new students in my grade level every year. I love getting to know them and helping them feel more confident about their learning – whether in reading, writing, math or teaching my special-area class daily. Learning about them as individuals, their interests and their families makes you feel like you are part of a larger community.
What is your favorite memory at UCPS?
It is hard to pinpoint my favorite memory of the last nine years. The most special part of my job is when you can help a child overcome or rethink something that has been a challenge for them. Seeing it in their eyes when they realize they can do something they thought they couldn’t is one of the most amazing rewards of my job.

What's your "superpower" at work (the thing you’re known for)?
As an instructional assistant, they mean it when they say that “flexible” is our middle name, so I am definitely that. I am known for my attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to take initiative on what needs to be done for my team and my school. I hope to be known for my passion and commitment to the success of every student.
Outside of your job, what are your hobbies or interests?
When I am not at my job and taking a break from my degree work, I love watching an exciting sports game – baseball, football, basketball, or any other sport. If you add my husband, three kids and my dog, it is even better. I also love going to the beach and sitting in the sand with a good book.
If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?
I would love to sit down with Aaron Judge or any member of the New York Yankees. I am a huge fan, and how many people can say they ate with someone from their favorite team, who also happens to be 6’7”!
What’s the coolest place you’ve ever visited? What did you like about it?
I was blessed to have traveled quite a bit when I was younger, but if I had to pick one place, I would say Ireland. My dad took my brother and me after graduation. It was a fantastic trip. It was a wonderful time with my family. We learned much about my father’s ancestors. The countryside was absolutely stunning, the people were so friendly, and there were some great golf courses!
What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I grew up outside Washington, D.C., and worked in the U.S. Capitol for many years. I was fortunate enough to meet many interesting people and was a part of some important moments during my time there.
