Union County Public Schools launches Strategic Plan 2026–2031

Union County Public Schools launches Strategic Plan 2026–2031

Union County Public Schools (UCPS) has released a new strategic plan, outlining goals and priorities for the next five years. Strategic Plan 2026–2031 was unanimously approved by the Union County Board of Education this spring.

The new plan has four strategic priorities—safe and supportive culture, academic success, innovation and future ready, recruitment and retention and parent and community partnerships.

“Now is the time to build on our academic gains, proven innovative programming and community partnerships,” Superintendent Dr. Andrew Houlihan said. “This new plan will move us forward and help us to identify key strategies that will lead to higher student outcomes.”

Through surveys and collaborative discussions, UCPS senior leaders received valuable input and feedback from employees, students, parents, community members and our Board of Education. Their perspectives helped to identify and shape the plan’s four focus areas.

“As we move forward, let us remember that a strategic plan is more than words written on paper,” said Board Chairman Rev. Jimmy H. Bention, Sr. “It is a commitment to action, accountability, collaboration and results.”

Monitoring progress is an essential part of this process. As we move through the plan, staff will monitor the work and report on the progress quarterly. Reports will be presented to the Strategic Planning, Technology and Transportation board committee and updates will be posted on the strategic plan webpage at ucpsnc.org/strategic-plan.
