Summer 2026 digital learning resources
Union County Public Schools is helping students to stay engaged and continue learning throughout the summer with access to approved digital tools. At home or at summer learning locations, students can use resources for reading, math practice, research and enrichment designed to support learning beyond the school year.
These resources will be available throughout the summer. However, some tools may no longer be accessible after July 27 as UCPS prepares for the 2026–2027 school year.
Your starting point: EmpowerED Family Portal
Families can access all approved digital learning resources through the EmpowerED Family Portal. This central hub allows users to search by grade level, subject or keyword and provides step-by-step login guidance for each tool.
Students may need login credentials provided by their school.
Supporting learning at every grade level
UCPS-approved digital tools are organized to support students at every stage of learning.
- Elementary school students can build reading skills and explore new topics using myON, Sora and Discovery Education, along with digital library and research resources.
- Middle school students can strengthen skills in math and literacy using Freckle Math, BrainPOP, myON, Sora and Discovery Education.
- High school students have access to resources that support advanced coursework and college and career readiness, including Sora, Albert for AP and standardized test practice, and additional research tools through the portal.

In addition to UCPS digital tools, families can explore other approved and community-based learning opportunities available this summer.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Office of Early Learning offers summer learning resources designed to support continued academic growth at home.
Summer and home learning activity plans for early learners
Union County Public Library also offers a summer reading program for students in grades K–12 from June 8 through August 1. The program encourages students to stay engaged in reading throughout the summer with activities and incentives for all grade levels.

These resources are designed to fit family schedules in flexible ways, whether students spend a few minutes reading each day or engage in longer learning sessions. Consistent practice over the summer can help students stay confident and prepared for the upcoming school year.
