Starting kindergarten is an exciting milestone for families, and Union County Public Schools (UCPS) is here to help make the transition smooth and welcoming.
When to enroll
Kindergarten enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year opens Feb. 2, 2026. Children are eligible if they turn five years old on or before Aug. 31, 2026.
How to get started
Enrollment is completed online through Infinite Campus. Families can visit ucpsnc.org, click on the Enroll tab, and follow the steps for kindergarten registration. Unsure which school your child will attend? The Edulog WebQuery tool on the UCPS website helps families identify their assigned school quickly.
For families who need additional support, elementary school staff are available to help complete the enrollment process.
What documents you’ll need
To complete enrollment, families should be prepared to upload:
- A birth certificate to verify age eligibility
- A certified immunization record with a doctor’s signature or clinic stamp
- Two documents showing proof of residence
- A completed Kindergarten Health Assessment Report (due before the first day of school)
Learning opportunities
UCPS kindergarten students benefit from a strong core curriculum plus unique academic options, including dual language immersion, arts-focused programs, health sciences, AgTech, sustainable energy and leadership pathways.
Families are encouraged to learn more about their child’s school and the programs available. Families can visit school websites and follow school social media pages for open house dates and times.
Support beyond the classroom
Transportation is provided for kindergarten students, and after-school programs are available at identified elementary schools. UCPS also offers extensive support services for students with disabilities through its Exceptional Children’s Program.
