Maxwell Karras receives the John H. Crowder Service Award

Maxwell Karras from Sun Valley High was the recipient of the John H. Crowder award.

For over three decades, John H. Crowder dedicated his life to supporting the youth of Union County. In honor of his enduring contributions and lasting impact, the Union County Board of Education presented the John H. Crowder Service Award for December to a Sun Valley High School senior.

Maxwell Karras stands out among his peers as a devoted and driven student who consistently challenges himself through his schooling and his involvement in the community. Maxwell is ranked in the top five percent of his class and has successfully completed honors, Advanced Placement and South Piedmont Community College courses. Maxwell is on track to earn his associate's degree this year.

Maxwell has been an active member of Beta Club, Student Council, Fellowship for Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Rho Kappa and Journalism. Through each of these clubs, he has demonstrated leadership, community building and growth.

Outside of the school setting, Maxwell demonstrates a strong commitment to his church community. He is an active member of Life Teen, has served as a small group leader during a youth retreat for St. Matthew's Middle Scholars, has taught Sunday school classes, serves as the youth representative for the St. Matthew’s Parish Council, and regularly contributes to church services by assisting with communion distribution.

Maxwell plans to attend a four-year university to study education. His hope is to one day make a difference in the lives of youth.
