For over three decades, John H. Crowder dedicated his life to supporting the youth of Union County. In honor of his enduring contributions and lasting impact, the Union County Board of Education presented the John H. Crowder Service Award for January to a Union County Early College senior.

Matthew Moore has dedicated much of his time to serving his community and excelling academically. He has taken a rigorous course load throughout high school and will be graduating in May with a high school diploma and an associate’s degree from South Piedmont Community College. He will have earned 61 college credit hours while still in high school and has remained on the A Honor Roll every semester.

Matthew has also volunteered countless hours in his community and church. He has volunteered with Common Heart, Samaritan’s Purse, Samaritan’s Feet, Promising Pages and Elevation Church. Since 2019, Matthew has served on the production team at his church. His dedication each Sunday led to his role as technical director since 2024.

At Union County Early College, he has been involved in the Photography Club and is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success through South Piedmont Community College.

Matthew plans to attend the University of North Carolina Wilmington to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film studies. He then intends to continue his education by earning a Master of Fine Arts in film, directing, screenwriting and cinematography.
