Union County Public Schools’ 2026 Books and Brackets reading challenge is heading into its most exciting stretch yet. After weeks of incredible dedication and page-turning perseverance, the field has officially narrowed to the Elite Eight.

Now in its 10th year, this fan-favorite literacy showdown continues to prove that reading is the ultimate team sport and students are bringing their A-game.

As tradition holds, the Elite Eight will gather for a special celebration at Wingate University, March 27, a signature part of the Books and Brackets experience each year. The event recognizes their incredible reading accomplishments and gives students a chance to celebrate together in a championship-worthy atmosphere.

And yes, there are a few surprises in store. But those details? Still top secret.

The excitement is building as students continue logging minutes and cheering on their schools in this friendly and fierce competition.
