NC Teacher Salary Schedules

Certified Salary Schedules include teachers, certified instructional support and school-based administrators.

All educators working in a certified position are required to be paid from the legislated salary schedule. This schedule is approved annually by the general assembly and sets pay based on the educator's years of experience and education level as indicated on their North Carolina license issued through the Department of Public Instruction.

Note: To be eligible for Master’s (or other advanced degree) pay classroom teachers must have completed one course prior to August 1, 2013 that is relevant to the subject area they will be teaching.

As a supplement to these monthly amounts, an LEA may approve additional funds to account for variances such as geographic location, market conditions or school demographics.

UCPS Non-Certified Salaries

The state sets minimums and maximums for non-certified positions, but schedules are managed at the local level.  Non-certified staff are placed on the schedule based on the relevant work history they have included on their application at the time of initial hire.  Non-certified staff receive pay increases when:

  • legislative increases are approved by the general assembly
  • experience (step) increases are approved through the local budget process
  • market studies are funded to address specific salary schedules

Applicants should review the job description attached to the job posting for information regarding the minimum pay for the position.  For a salary quote, please email compensation@ucps.k12.nc.us.
