Need help with the FAFSA? South Piedmont Community College is waiting to hear from you. South Piedmont’s expert financial aid staff will help you complete your FAFSA. All you have to do is visit the OCH campus, 4209 Old Charlotte Highway in Monroe, any time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday. Go to the Main Building (the one with all the windows) and ask the front-desk person for directions to Student Affairs. If your parent can come with you, that’s great! If not, be sure to bring your parent’s contact information, including email address and Social Security number. If you have general questions about completing the FAFSA, South Piedmont can assist you over the phone. Call 704-290-5100.

One question that is causing issues with students is:

Are the student’s parents unwilling to provide their information, but the student doesn’t have an unusual circumstance, such as those listed in question 7, that prevents them from contacting the parents or obtaining their information?

If the answer is “Yes,” a financial aid administrator at the student’s school will determine their eligibility for a Direct Unsubsidized Loan only. If the student is approved for this option, they will not qualify to receive other types of federal student loans (including Direct Subsidized Loans), federal grants, or Federal Work-Study programs.

This question will bypass inviting a parent to contribute their information, resulting in the student only being eligible for an Unsubsidized Loan. If a student accidentally chooses "Yes" and submits, they will not be able to make corrections until April. If parents are willing to provide their information, the student should choose "No."
